Why Dipper Communications?
Dipper Communications took flight after a trip to Scotland in 2026, but really it’s been over 20 years in the making.
The dipper is a remarkable little bird. Equally at home above and below the water's surface, it dives beneath fast-flowing streams with confidence and purpose, adapting to changing conditions and finding opportunities where others might not look.
That spirit is what inspired Dipper Communications.
Founded to provide flexible communications support, Dipper Communications is here to dip in when you need an extra pair of hands, fresh strategic thinking or specialist expertise. Whether it's helping to tell your story, navigate change or deliver a campaign, support is tailored to your goals and delivered with care.
Nature is more than an inspiration - it's at the heart of how we work. Diversity is key, so we can bring together a trusted network of freelancers and specialists depending on the project.
We believe the most meaningful communications create positive, lasting impact, helping organisations connect with people while contributing to a more sustainable future. By partnering with people and organisations that care about their communities and the environment, we help communicate purpose with clarity, honesty and authenticity.
Like the dipper, we believe in being adaptable, resilient and quietly effective - ready to dive in, make a difference, and leave things stronger than we found them.
Our Team
Jo Osborn
Founder
I have been working in communications since 2005. Most of that time has been spent in the water sector which has enabled me to enjoy a career with a breadth of communications experience that I’d love to share.
Everything from community engagement and education programmes, to crisis communications and public affairs. Employee engagement alongside wider public engagement have always been areas I have led on.
I have supported executive teams and boards to develop responsible business strategies and have experience of ESG reporting and delivering responsible business programmes.
I can also lead or support with project bid writing and proposals and have experience winning high profile sustainability and behaviour change programmes.
If you don’t already know me, you’ll maybe not be surprised that when I’m not at work you’ll find me walking or running by water, or finding somewhere safe for a wild swim - the dipper is my spirit bird!
Commitment to my profession and lifelong learning
Public relations has been a key focus of my work and I’m proud to be a chartered member of the CIPR, and as a volunteer on the STEM Committee - anything science, engineering and environmental always sparks my interest.
In 2020 I graduated with distinction from the London School of Economics with an MSc in Behavioural Science and this knowledge really influences my practice and focus on research and evaluation to deliver successful results.
Birds of a feather
Although, like the dipper, I can happily work alone to get jobs done, I also thrive working with others and will ensure I work collaboratively with you and your team to deliver your ambitions.
I’ve enjoyed a career that has led me to work with amazing designers, photographers, illustrators and communications agencies - so if you have a project that needs a wider team I can help you build a collective to deliver your goals.
Speaking of amazing people, thank you to Alive with Ideas and Luke Osborn for helping with my logo and branding. The photos are all by Ady Kerry.
